Darlene Jones' Obituary
Darlene Jones, daughter of Charlie and Nellie Marie Owens Benge, was born November 12, 1940, in London, Kentucky. She departed this life Monday, November 23, 2009, in her sister’s home, in Nauvoo, Alabama, at the age of sixty-nine years and eleven days. On September 2, 1961, she was united in marriage to Doyle Edward Jones, and two children were born to this union. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Vincent Edward Jones; three sisters, Maggie Hubbard, Juanita Trotter and Bessie Sellers; a brother, Alonzo Benge; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Benge. Darlene is survived by her daughter, Sherry Horton, of Grovespring, Missouri; her granddaughter, Chelsie Horton, of Grovespring, Missouri; three sisters, Edna Casanova, and her husband, Cesar, of Nauvoo, Alabama, Georgia Pantelis, of Biscayne Park, Florida and Sudie Marcus and her husband, Jerry, of Trenton, Tennessee; two brothers, Monroe Benge, of Jasper, Alabama and Charles Benge and his wife, Susan, of West Palm Beach, Florida; many nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Her parents and family were living in Kentucky when she was born, moving to Ohio and later to Chicago, where she lived until she was twenty-three. After her marriage to Doyle, they made their home in Chicago for a few years, and then moved to the Grovespring area where they raised their family. For the last few months she had been living in Alabama to be near her sister. Darlene professed her faith in Christ and was a member of the Odin Community Church, where she enjoyed her church fellowship. She found great joy in singing the hymns of the faith there. Throughout her life she cared for her family and especially liked spending time with her granddaughter. She had worked for Oxford Home Care, as an in home caregiver and also at Gaslight Manor in Lebanon for several years. Sharing a cup of coffee with a friend, going shopping and cooking were some of the past times that gave her joy. Darlene was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the many beautiful memories she created for her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all those who love her and will live on in our hearts forever. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday November 30, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Hartville. Burial will be in the Cuba Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday afternoon 3-5:00 p.m. under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Hartville, Missouri. Return to top
