Darrell Athel Robertson (Hartville)'s Obituary
Darrel Athel Robertson, son of Omar Arvall and Ruth Estella (Martin) Robertson, was born June 21, 1931. He departed this life October 3, 2010, in his home, near Hartville, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, three months and twelve days.
On November 2, 1956, he was united in marriage to Susie Lillian Clark, and to this union three sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Ray; and a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Ruth Robertson.
Darrel is survived by his wife, Sue, of the home; two sons, Mark Robertson and his wife, Susie, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Dennis Robertson and his wife, Lisa, of Grovespring, Missouri; six grandchildren, Stephanie Robertson, Devon Robertson, Danielle Robertson, Trent Robertson, Nathan Looper and his wife, Jennifer, and Jeremy Looper; three great-grandchildren, R.J. Looper, Annie Hicks-Looper, and Alex Jones; three sisters, Beulah Long and husband, Owen, of Hartville, Missouri, Bonnie Agee and her husband, Chester, and Beverly Hawkins and her husband, Norman, all of Lebanon, Missouri; five brothers, Farris Robertson and his wife, Sue, of Niangua, Missouri, Charles Robertson and his wife, Karen, of Nashville, Arkansas, Dillard Robertson and his wife, Joyce of Odessa, Missouri, Kenneth Robertson and his wife, Judy, of House Springs, Missouri, and Steve Robertson and his wife, Susie, of Grovespring, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born on a farm near Competition in the Elk Creek area. As a young boy the family moved to the farm in the Durbin Community, where he attended the Durbin School. Darrel served his country faithfully in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1954. He returned home, bought the farm in the Cope Community, married Sue, his life partner, and they began their life journey.
Darrel accepted Jesus Christ into his heart on February 4, 2010. He enjoyed attending church with his family as long as his health allowed. He centered his life around his family, the farm and greatly loved spending time with and teasing the grandchildren. He had also worked for Brown Shoe Company in Mountain Grove for twenty-seven years.
He was a longtime board member of the Pleasant Grove (Cope) Cemetery. In his spare time he enjoyed coon hunting, cutting wood, and caring for and riding his horse, Friskey.
Darrel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed, but the memories he created for his family and friends will live on in our hearts forever.
