Darrell Birks' Obituary
Darrell Gene Birks, son of George D. and Aurelia Pashia Birks, was born July 4, 1935, near Lead Wood, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, May 6, 2007, in Christian Health Care North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years, ten months, and one day. On June 1, 1963, he was united in marriage to Shirley D. Shockley, and to this union one daughter and two sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and a brother, Glen Birks. Darrell is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; a son, Daniel Birks, of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter, Kelly Gaver, and her husband, Tony, of Lebanon, Missouri; two grandchildren, Joseph Fitzgerald, Jr., of the State of Texas, and Candace McFarlane, of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister, Marilyn Ratty, and her husband, Tillman, of Bonne Terre, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Shirley Birks, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was raised in Herculaneum, Missouri, where he attended school. After he and Shirley were married, they made their home in Pevely, Missouri, and lovingly raised their family. Darrell worked for the Kohler-Craft Plastic Products Company in Fenton, Missouri for several years. For the last few years the family had made their home in Lebanon. Darrell was raised in the Methodist faith. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and working with the soil. He liked walking, racing, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed country music and was a fan of Boxcar Willie, who he met in person, and had learned to imitate his train whistle. He also had a fondness for animals and liked antique cars. Darrell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
