Darrell Arthur Guthery was born August 25, 1951 in Norwood, Missouri to Freddy and Orva (Douglas) Guthery. He departed this life Friday, January 15, 2010 in his home in Fordland, Missouri surrounded by his family and loved ones, at the age of 58. He grew up on a small farm near Mansfield, Missouri and graduated from Mansfield High School in the Class of 1969. On June 23, 1973 he married Jane Ann Rhoads and they started their life together in Springfield, Missouri, and later moved to Fordland, Missouri to start a home and family. To this union two children were born, Anna Jane Guthery and Nicholas “Nick” Lynn Guthery.
Darrell had made his profession of faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of the Diggins Baptist Church. He held the position of Moderator of the Webster County Baptist Association for several years, and also served as Alderman and Mayor of Fordland for some time. He retired from Ridewell Corporation in July of 2009 after 25 years of employment and had also served as Union Steward of Teamsters Local 245.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his parents-in-law, Stanford and Laura Rhoads. Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jane, of the home; his daughter, Anna Watts and her husband Dallas, of Rogers, Arkansas; his son, Nick Guthery and his wife Christine, of Fordland, Missouri; three grandsons, Garrett, Jackson, and Lucas Watts; a sister, Darlene March, of Ava, Missouri; a brother-in-law Steve Rhoads and his wife Vicky, of Lebanon, Missouri; four nephews, one niece, several cousins, and a host of friends.
Throughout his life, Darrell enjoyed reading, mechanics, and discovering what makes objects work. In his spare time, he and Jane enjoyed “bargain-hunting” at garage sales and auctions, weekend drives, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
Darrell was a genuine, honest, hard working, trust-worthy man, and was a loving husband, a giving and wonderful father, and a great friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the precious memories he created for his family and friends.
