While in high school, Darrell enjoyed playing baseball, and especially loved to pitch. He had accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized on November 2, 1940. He entered into the United States Army Air Corps on November 30, 1945, and faithfully served his country during World War II and was stationed in Korea, until being honorably discharged on February 9, 1947. Following his honorable discharge, Darrell returned to Hartville for a short while before moving to Wichita, Kansas.

Darrell was an avid fisherman. His time with family and friends was very important to him, and he made multiple trips home to Hartville as long as his health allowed. He especially loved the Henderson’s fish fry get-togethers and eating yellow suckers. When asked if he wanted dessert he replied, “Yes, I think I’ll have another piece of fish”. He was an excellent swimmer, and enjoyed spending time in his pool.
Darrell had a passion for watching NASCAR Races and cheering for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
Darrell was a fun-loving, kind-hearted person, a loving uncle, great-uncle, great-great-uncle, and a caring friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and dear friends.
