Darrell Riley (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Darrell Dean Riley, age 80, of Bolivar, died Monday, August 18, 2014. He was born on August 3, 1934 to Edwin Rhea and Virginia Riley in Atchison, Kansas.
Darrell owned and operated Riley’s Package Liquor Store in Bolivar for approximately 25 years until it burned in September, 2003. During that time Darrell never met a stranger. He was a quiet man and not one to gain attention. He quietly helped anyone in need.
Since September, 2011, upon diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, Darrell was a resident of Colonial Springs Nursing Home, in Buffalo. He was loved and cared for by a host of outstanding staff members in the home. He was active in daily activities where he enjoyed playing games, bingo, outings, and social gatherings. Frequent visits from his wife and grandson were the highlight of his days. Darrell will be sorely missed.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, and dear friend, Ann Duggan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 7 years, Barbara Riley, of the home; two sons from his former wife, Dorothy Riley, Donald and Julie Riley, of Huntsville, Alabama, and Doyle and Marci Riley, of Kearney, Missouri; three granddaughters, Loginn Riley and Andee Riley, of Kearney, Missouri, and Ashley Wallace, of Huntsville, Alabama; one grandson, Bradley Stewart, of Huntsville, Alabama; a grandson by choice, Spencer Lipe, of Bolivar; and a host of step-grandchildren, other friends, and relatives.
