Darrell VanNess (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Darrell VanNess, beloved husband of Catherine VanNess, peacefully departed this earthly life Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at his home in Mansfield, Missouri. Darrell was sixty-two years, one month and seventeen days young.
One of eight children, he was born Darrell Newton VanNess on December 31, 1952, to Joseph Smith and Verna Mae (Brazeal) VanNess, in Mansfield, where he would live all of his years.
On November 24, 1973, Darrell married Catherine Louise Whorton, and to this union three children were born. He was a life-long truck driver and then worked for Missouri Department of Transportation for ten years before retiring.
Darrell loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman, raising, running and showing beagles, coon hounds and fox hounds. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by brothers, Jack, Joe Ray, Curtis and Jerry.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of nearly forty-two years, Catherine, of the home; son, Johnny Ray VanNess of Rogersville, Missouri; daughter, Janet Alexander and husband, Todd, of Bay Village, Ohio; and daughter Serina McCrea and husband, Travis, of Republic, Missouri; five grandchildren, Samantha, Matthew and Austin – all of Rogersville, and Ethan and Brynn of Bay Village, Ohio; three step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Larry VanNess and wife, Jan, of Springfield, Missouri, and Gerald VanNess and wife, Beverly, of Rogersville; his sister, Leah Mae Lee of Ava, Missouri; sister-in-law, Mickey VanNess of Rogersville; and cousin, Bill Brazeal, who was like a brother; and a host of extended relatives, dear friends and neighbors.
Darrell Newton VanNess was a dedicated husband and father, a fun-loving grandfather who truly enjoyed his grandchildren, and a caring brother and friend. He is gone from our lives much too soon, but the many memories and moments he created for his family and friends will be treasured in their hearts and minds forever.
