David Paul Carpenter (Seymour) Sr.'s Obituary
D. Paul Carpenter, Sr. was born October 12, 1925 in Seymour, Missouri to James Clay and Edith (Davis) Carpenter and passed away on March 5, 2018. Paul lived his entire life in Seymour and was a graduate of Seymour High School in the class of 1943. He tried to teach Frank Ipock at Flint Hollow School and then served in the Army in WWII in the Philippines and Japan for four years. Paul married Jean Welch on July 22, 1950 and three sons were born to this union, David Paul Carpenter, Jr., James Arthur (Jim) Carpenter and Thomas Eugene Carpenter. He worked for the Postal Service as a rural carrier until retirement in 1980. He was an electrician in the Seymour area until he was over 80 years old and worked with Shorty Heckendorn and Monroe Smith. Paul was a 33rd degree Mason in the Seymour Chapter and in the Scottish Rite. He served as an active member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Paul also served in the American Legion for many years.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rosemary Hake, two brothers Glenn Carpenter and Lloyd Wayne Carpenter; his son Jim Carpenter; brothers-in-law David Whitehurst, Ed Huffman and Vernon Singer.
He is survived by his wife Jean of 67 years, who resides in the home Paul built in Seymour; two sons David & Mary Carpenter, Tom Carpenter a daughter-in-law Linda Carpenter, all of Seymour; his grandchildren Damon and Perry Carpenter of Springfield, MO, Jason Carpenter and Jane Dessing of Oakland, CA, Holly Stearns of Lawton, OK, Kathy Cook, Debbie and Elmer Letsinger, Cindy-Kelly Handley, Butch and Janis Deal, Del and Shawna Ayers; his great grandchildren Zoe Stearns, Corbin Stearns, Elizabeth Ayers, Lacy Gates, Andrea Mager, Craig Letsinger, Cory Letsinger, Anessa Richardson, Dillon Handley, Karlee Handley, Chance Deal and Keeley Deal. His surviving siblings include Darlene and Stan Loring of Springfield, MO, Evelyn Whitehurst of Marshfield, MO, Lyle and Glenda Carpenter of Des Moines, IA, Neva and Bill Schroeder of Houston, TX, Shirley Huffman of Springfield, MO and Carol Singer of Marshfield, MO; sister-in-law Mary Lou Carpenter of St. Louis, MO and a brother-in-law Jim Hake of California and many many nieces, nephews and great great grandchildren.
