David Lee Kirkland (Lebanon)'s Obituary
David Lee Kirkland, son of Harley James and Elsie Spurlock Kirkland, was born August 10, 1956 in Mansfield, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, August 13, 2015, in his home in Lebanon, Missouri, while with his family, at the age of fifty-nine years and three days.
On October 23, 2004, David was united in marriage to Mary Kay McMilian, and together they have shared the last eleven years.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Tina Kirkland.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; sons, Michael David Kirkland and wife Angela, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Ryan Hicks and wife Tasha, of Joplin, Missouri; daughter, Brittany Hicks, of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Kalie, Kelsie, Kara, and Kameron; a sister, Delcia Heriford of Ava, Missouri; two brothers, Curtis James Kirkland and wife Mary, of West Plains, Missouri, and Steve Kirkland, of Ozark, Missouri; a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
David was born in Mansfield and was a graduate of Mansfield High School. He worked for R.L. Clark Drilling in Mansfield for many years, drilling oil and water wells throughout Missouri and Oklahoma. In 1988, he went to work for Lowe Boats on the assembly line. He held many positions throughout his career at Lowe Boats, and cared deeply for his fellow employees. When Lowe Boats became part of the Brunswick Corporation, David served as a Senior Vice-President of Freshwater Sales. He was serving as Vice President of Lowe Boats at the time of his death.
David had accepted Christ as his Savior and was a member of the Family Church of Lebanon, Missouri.
David had a love of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, and riding his Harleys, traveling the country with Mary on his bike.
He was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, and was a season ticket holder for many years, and loved watching NASCAR whenever possible. When David wasn’t doing any of his other activities, you could find him on his farm, usually smoking meat and BBQing, frying fish and fellowshipping with his family, friends and neighbors. David had a knack for telling stories, making it seem as if you were right there along with him in every detail told.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Laclede County Relay for Life, and left at the funeral home.
