David Malzahn (Lebanon) 's Obituary
David Roy Malzahn, son of Harold and Frances Johnson Malzahn, was born December 9, 1941, in Richfield, Minnesota. He departed this life Tuesday, June 7, 2016, in his home, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-four years, five months, and twenty-eight days.
On October 10, 1992, he was united in marriage to Merylene Henson Dampier, and they shared the last twenty-three years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, his identical twin, Dean, and Dale Malzahn.
David is survived by his wife, Merylene Dampier, of the home; a son, Tim Malzahn, and his wife, Marcia, of Maple Grove, Minnesota; a daughter, Bethann Rapacz, of Otsego, Minnesota; three step-daughters, Julie Cook, and her husband, Tom, of Prairie Village, Kansas, Tammie Langelund, and her husband, Bob, of Lake In The Hills, Illinois, and Angie Dampier, of Lebanon, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Nicole Garske, Patrick Malzahn, Madison Rapacz, Kaitlyn Rapacz, Josh Cook, Anna Cook, and Ryan Langelund; a niece, Christine Malzahn, and a nephew, Matthew Malzahn, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Richfield, Minnesota, and graduated from Richfield High School. He then attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned an Associate’s Degree. He entered the Minnesota National Guard and served faithfully for several years. He worked as a buyer and manufacturing sales representative for many years in Minnesota and Colorado. In 2004, he moved to Gilbert, Arizona, where he had his own company as a repair/handy man, but was truly a “consummate salesman”.
When his son was young, David was a Boy Scout Master and continued to serve in that capacity of adult instructor for nearly twenty-five years. He greatly enjoyed doing woodworking projects of all kinds. He liked being outdoors where his favorite activities were skiing, camping, and hunting. He also had a talent for drawing and calligraphy. He was an outgoing person with a entertaining sense of humor. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Although he had lived in other places for a number of years, his heart was still in Minnesota.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
