David Manar's Obituary
David Loyd Manar, son of Herman and Lila (Van Meter) Manar was born September 16, 1932 near Seymour, Missouri. He departed this life, Wednesday, March 9, 2011 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri at the age of seventy eight years, five months and twenty-one days.
On February 2, 1957 David was united in marriage to Frieda Evelyn Blackwell, and to this union two daughters were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Anna Mae Lohr; and a step-grandson, Joseph Hughes.
David is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Frieda, of the home; two daughters, Sharon Hughes and her husband, Robert, of Springfield, Missouri and Diane Banks, of Seymour, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Catherine Haverstick, Christopher Haverstick, Joseph Haverstick and his wife, Nicole, Jimmy O’Neal, Amanda Taylor and her husband, Justin, Timothy Goss, and Joshua Wright; seven great-grandchildren, Adelyn Haverstick, Kimberly Hance, David O’Neal, Hailey O’Neal, Jimmy Paul O’Neal, Jr., Casey O’Neal, and Caden Taylor; five brothers, Jimmy Manar and his wife, Verna, of Neosho, Missouri, George Manar, of_______, Jerry Manar, State of New Mexico, Lendon Manar and his wife, Sheila, of Fancy Farms, Kentucky, and Hilbert Manar, of Golden, Missouri; five sisters, Betty Navarro and her husband, Ray, of Lompoc, California, Bessie Hammond and her husband, Bob, of Rogersville, Missouri, Barbara Neal of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, Sandra Woods, of Seymour, Missouri, and Connie Hoagland and her husband, Lester, of Warsaw, Missouri; a special sister-in-law, Pat Manar, of Warsaw, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
David grew up in the Seymour, Missouri area and at age 18 he enlisted in the United States Marines and served his country faithfully during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the services he moved to St. Louis, Missouri and worked for the Roadway, Inc., and he met and married Frieda and they made their home in St. Louis. When he retired, they moved to their farm south of Diggins.
He had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Diggins.
David was proud of his service to his country and had been a member of Wilson-Alexander Post # 306 and the Military Honors Team in Seymour as long as his health permitted.
In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and dune buggy racing and recently spent much of the time on the computer. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, and was a caring friend and neighbor. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will forever cherish the memories he created for his family and friends.
Services are 10:30 A.M. Saturday, march 12, 2011 in Holman-Howe Chapel in Seymour with burial and full military honors in Seymour Masonic Cemetery under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour. Visitation will be 6-7:00 P.M. Friday in the funeral home.
