David Oliver Thompson, son of Jack French and Mary Louise Smith Thompson, was born May 22, 1944 in Waco, Texas. He departed this life Wednesday, July 12, 2017, in his home, near Richland, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years, one month, and twenty days.
His parents preceded him in death.
David is survived by a daughter, Carmen Rowe; two sons, Andrew Thompson and Anthony Thompson, both of Grand Island, Nebraska; two granddaughters; a brother, Paul Thompson, and his wife, Betty, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; a sister, Ruth Mabary, of St. Louis, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born in Waco, Texas, and then moved with his family to a farm near Phillipsburg, Missouri. After graduating from high school, he entered the military and served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Once he was honorably discharged from the military, he began working as a truck driver and worked for various companies in different areas. In 1986, he began driving for the Wal Mart Company and continued with them until retiring in 2000. He then continued to drive for a few other companies for the next few years. For the last several years he had made his home on his farm near Richland.
David was a member of the Elks Lodge. He greatly enjoyed working on his farm. He liked talking on his C.B. radio where his handle was “Missouri Plow Boy”. One of his favorite things to do was to go to Branson, Missouri, to see Box Car Willie perform.
David loved being a truck driver and a farmer and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society may be made through the funeral home.
