Dean Coffin (Humansville)'s Obituary
Elwin Dean Coffin, age 79 years, 8 months, and 3 days, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Elwin Dean was born in Humansville, Missouri, to Haskell and Lois Coffin. He attended grade school at Hickory Grove from 1949 until 1952 when the family moved, and he attended Humansville Elementary and High School through his junior year before he joined the US Army. He spent two years in France as a Color Guard MP. Spending a brief time on the east coast of the United States after his discharge, he then came back to Missouri, spending most of the rest of his life here.
Dean married Donna Fay Swindler on August 22, 1966, and they shared 56 years together. To this union were born three sons. Dewayne David, Dennis Lee, and Dale Ray.
He worked at many construction jobs during his working years. He could build anything from furniture to a commercial building. The family moved out to Silt, Colorado in the early 1980’s and spent a few years there before moving back to Humansville.
Dean attended Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was born again in his early teen years. The assurance of a home in heaven sustained him as he made his last journey on this earth. He was a faithful member of the church during his life and spent much of his time in these last years studying God’s Word. He will be remembered by his church family for his knowledge of the Bible and love for God.
He is preceded in death by his baby brother John Wayne, son Dennis Lee, and his father Haskell Curtis.
Dean is survived by his mother Lois, his loving wife Fay, his son Dewayne (Christina), and their sons Dustin Robert Coffin and Seth Michael Leffmann; Dennis’ wife RaeAnne, their children Robert Lee and Alexis RaeAnne; Dale Ray and daughters Destiny Jones (Tanner), Samantha and Machelle.
Dean is also survived by al of his sisters: Dixie Dale Christensen (Donald), Patricia Ann Bray, Joyce Sue Stacy, Terri Diane Watts (Richard) and Twyla Kay Vencill (Jack). Thirteen nieces and nephews belong to these 5 sisters.
Dean’s great-grandchildren include Lyla Aspen Ranee Jones, Theodore Shane Jones, and August Lee Coffin.
A private burial will take place at a later date. Family and friends may stop by the funeral home in Humansville to sign the guestbook and pay respects to Dean on Tuesday 3-28-2023 and Wednesday 3-29-2023.
