Delmer Capps (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Delmer Capps, son of F. G. and Flora Cornelius Capps, was born August 3, 1934, in Oilton, Oklahoma. He departed this life Friday, April 24, 2020, in Cox South Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, eight months, and twenty-one days.
In 1953, he was united in marriage to Norma May Jones, and to this union two sons were born. Norma passed away in December of 1974.
On May 13, 1983, he married Betty Wynema Jeremiah, and they shared the last thirty-six years.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; his infant twin brother, and two other brothers, Bob and Edward Capps.
Delmer is survived by his loving wife, Betty, of the home; two sons, Kenny Capps, and his wife, Lori, and Brian Capps, all of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Joshua, Ashton, and Chandler; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Oklahoma and then moved with his family to Lebanon, Missouri in 1951. He then graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1953. For a few years he worked as a truck driver before going into the car business in 1959, and continuing in that career for the rest of his life. He owned and operated Delmer Capps Used Cars for a number of years, and then owned Dixon Ford for a time. He later owned Lebanon Ford from 1976 – 1978. He had also owned I-44 Auto Auction. He loved being in the car business. He also owned the Lebanon Livestock Auction at one time.
Early in his life he was active in the Southern Heights Christian Church in Lebanon.
He was a member of the Missouri Automobile Dealers Association in Jefferson City, where he served in various capacities. He also served on the board of directors of the Missouri Independent Automobile Dealers Association. He liked antique cars and was often involved in area car shows. In his spare time he enjoyed going to swap meets and playing golf.
He had very fond memories of his childhood in Oklahoma and especially of his favorite teacher, Mrs. Foster, who encouraged him throughout his life. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Delmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
A family graveside service will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at the Lebanon Cemetery.
