Dennis Watkins (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Dennis Wayne Watkins, age 55 of Urbana, Missouri died January 3, 2012 in Springfield after a brief illness. He is survived by his beautiful daughter, Mariah Reed and her mother, Anita Reed-Hooper. Also surviving is his mother Betty Watkins, his sister Janice Uptegrove, both of Kansas City, stepmother, Delores Watkins of Springfield, MO. He is also survived by nephews Kyle Uptegrove, Andrew Uptegrove and Jeremy, wife Heidi and daughter Zizi Uptegrove. Nephew Brent, wife Kendra and sons Alec and Brandon Bruington. He was preceded in death by his father Roy Watkins and sister Julie Bruington.
Dennis was born on August 16, 1956 to Betty and Roy Watkins in Kansas City, MO. He worked in the KC area after graduating from High School and then served in the Army for 3 years including a tour in Germany as a medic. After his Army service in 1989 he became a Certified Respiratory Therapist. He worked at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar for most of his career. He made many lifelong friends that he treasured there before retiring with medical issues.
He had strong friendships with a special group of friends that supported him in life. Many of the club members offered love and support to him and his family right up to the end. He was known as a very kind, caring, loving gentle soul. He was dearly loved by all of his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 7th, 2012 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Mo. with Steve Kenall officiating. A visitation will be held prior to service time from 11:30am-1:00pm at the funeral home. Final resting place will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dennis Watkins Memorial fund at Butler Funeral Home 407 E. Broadway, Bolivar MO 65613.
