Derrell Ashlock (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Derrell Ray Ashlock, age 79, met his Savior on Wednesday, March 22. He passed
peacefully at his home in Bolivar, MO, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 21,
1937 in Halfway, MO to Harold and Ethel (Alexander) Ashlock. He was the third of four children.
Derrell married the love of his life Nadean Stewart on June 26, 1955. They shared nearly
62 wonderful years together. Through this union they had three children: Kenneth, Wayne, and
Linda. He was very involved with his faith; he was saved at the age of 16 in 1953 at Goodson
MBC, ordained as Deacon of Calvary MBC in 1992, and served as a trustee of Calvary for many
years where he enjoyed serving the Lord.
In his employment, Derrell enjoyed 42 years working for All-Star Gas where he met
many friends. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren as well as tending the garden and working on his 1947 Chevy and a tractor
from his childhood. He is known as "Papa Derrell" to scores of children who have been cared for
by his wife Nadean throughout the last 55 years.
Surviving Derrell is his wife Nadean-children: Kenneth Ashlock and Kimie, Wayne and
Rhonda Ashlock, Linda and Dan McKnight-seven grandchildren: Kyle Ashlock (Ginger), Kim
Wallin (David), Laura Coker (Shaun), Kristen Keeler, Christopher McKnight (Racheal), Keaton
Ashlock, and Andrew McKnight-and great-grandchildren: Ben, Kenzie, Connor, Tray, Chris,
Parker, Elizabeth, Jacob, and Rusty. Also surviving Derrell are his Brother Don and Janice
Ashlock, siblings-in-Iaw Estal and Bonnie Stewart, Shirley Brown, and several nieces, nephews,
cousins, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Ethel Ashlock, sister and
brother-in-law Lorene and Chester Viles, and sister and brother-in-law Betty and Ronnie Jolly,
Father and mother-in-law Oles and Okla Stewart, brother-in-law Charles Brown.
Services for Darrell will be held Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2 PM at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, MO. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, MO. Graveside will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.
