Deryl Wayne Sweaney (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Deryl Wayne Sweaney age 85 of Buffalo, Missouri passed away April 19, 2023, in the Colonial Springs Nursing Home in Buffalo, Missouri.
Deryl was born on March 21, 1938, to the late Levi Virgil Sweaney and Genevieve (Stanton) Sweaney. After graduation he worked in Springfield doing foundation and basement work. In 1961 he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in the Panama Canal during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked for the Kansas City Housing Authority from 1964 to 1974. He was an Assistant Chief Engineer, he helped maintain their high-rise buildings. He left the housing authority to learn heating and air conditioning on the GI Bill. On August 19, 1974, he began working for the Union Pacific Railroad as an electrician on locomotives. He retired in June 2006.
During his working years, he was local committee man of the IBEW. He dabbled in real estate for several years. He joined the Masonic Lodge in 1972 and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Presently he mowed the cemetery during the summer and did other odd jobs.
He married his wife Caroline in 1981 and together they lived in Kansas City. He still had family in Dallas County and had to have a house there, so he could visit often.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Donald Lee Sweaney, Carol Ray Sweaney, and Harold Leslie Sweaney, one sister Diane Scrivener. He is survived by three brothers Freddie Sweaney and wife Keren, Floyd Sweaney, Ralph Sweaney and wife Martha, and Bobby Sweaney. Deryl will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Riverview Sweaney Cemetery, in care of the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cantlon-Otterness and Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo, Missouri.
Memorial Services for Deryl will be at 4:00 pm Friday, April 21, 2023, in the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home in Buffalo, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Friday, April 21, 2023, in the Chapel under the direction of the Cantlon-Otterness & Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo, Missouri.
