Dion Ortiz's Obituary
Dion “Doc” William Ortiz, age 65 of Bolivar. He died at home of a heart attack Monday November 3, 2008. He was born October 1, 1943 in Orange California to his parents William “Bill” and Shirley Ortiz. Doc was a passionate outdoors man and a lover of life. Doc moved to Siskiyou County at age 4 and attended school in Etna and Weed. At age 17 he enlisted in the US Army where he attended Basic Training at Fort Ord, AIT at Fort Knox and his first duty station in Straubing, Germany. It was in Straubing where he was injured and shortly after retired from military duty. He returned to Mt. Shasta where he married Francile, his wife of 35-years and raised two daughters. In 2006 Doc and Fran retired to Missouri so they could fish together year-round. Doc is survived by his wife Francile; two daughters and their husbands Susan Ortiz-Renteria and Rene’ Renteria of Silverton, Oregon and Sandra and Michael Barrera of Marshfield, Missouri; one granddaughter Miranda Barrera; his sister and brother in-law Patricia and Harold Meadows; and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones who he greatly influenced. Doc will be remembered for his love, laughter, and generosity. A celebration of life will be held in Siskiyou County later this month.
