Don W. Brown (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Don Wayne Brown, son of E. L. and Violet Bryant Brown, was born December 30, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas. He departed this life Thursday, January 28, 2021, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years, and twenty-nine days.
On August 26, 1967, he was united in marriage to Patsy Kay Perkins, and this union was blessed with one son, Brian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
Don is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Pat, of the home; a son, Brian Brown, and his wife, Tiffany, of Strafford, Missouri; a granddaughter, Madelyn Brown, of Springfield, Missouri; a grandson, Eli Herren, of Sedalia, Missouri; a brother, Charles Brown, and his wife, Linda, of Republic, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and close friends.
He was born in Wichita, Kansas and then moved with his family to Lebanon, Missouri, when he was two years old. He attended Lebanon R-III Schools, and graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1961. During his senior year, he joined the Missouri National Guard and served until being honorably discharged in 1968. Once his basic training was completed, he returned home and joined ownership in the family business, E. L. Brown and Son Sporting Goods. After he and Pat were married, they established their home in Lebanon and lovingly raised their son. Through the years, Don and Pat made many lifelong friends and enjoyed their life together. In 1976 and through 1980, he was appointed by the Governor of Missouri to serve as Lebanon’s License Bureau Agent. In 1983, Don began working with Marathon Electric and continued with them for twenty-five years, retiring in 2008.
Don professed his faith in Christ and was baptized in the First Christian Church of Lebanon in 1951. He remained a member there for seventy years.
He was active in the Lebanon community with Lebanon Youth Little League Baseball, Lebanon Area Jaycees, and the Lebanon Kiwanis Club. Don greatly enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were hunting and fishing. He liked fishing on all Missouri waterways, but was partial to Bennett Spring. He liked the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team, Kansas City Chiefs Football team, and the Blue and Gold Tournament each year. However, his true passion came on Friday and Saturday nights at any area race track, watching his son, Brian, race. His family was very dear to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren. He greatly liked having cookouts and visiting with his family and friends.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
Funeral services for Don Brown will be Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at 1 p.m. in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Turner officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 31 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery with full military rites.
