Don Plaster's Obituary
Don Porter Plaster, son of James Wilson and Ada Cleo (Reeves) Plaster, was born October 13, 1926 in the Pea Ridge Community, in Wright County, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, April 9, 2009 in Baxter County Regional Health Center, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the age of eighty-two years, five months, and twenty-six days.
On May 8, 1949 he was united in marriage to Imogene Faye Grubb and to this union one daughter and two sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Nathan Plaster; and two sisters, Vonna Cook and Elveta Plaster.
Don is survived by his loving wife of almost sixty years, Imogene, of the home; two sons, Sgt. Maj. USA (Ret.) Steven Plaster, and his wife, Cynthia, of Diggins, Missouri, and Capt. USAF (Ret.) Donald Plaster, and his wife, Sheila, of Columbia, Missouri; a daughter, Kathryn Stafford, and her husband, James, of Oakland, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Daniel, Laura, Amy, Jamie and Cody; five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Kaydence, Lucas, and Kayleigh; a sister, Glenda Plaster, of Las Vegas, Nevada; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
He was born and raised in the Pea Ridge Community near Hartville, Missouri and helped his father with area logging. After graduation he joined the United States Army and served his country faithfully during World War II. He then moved to Alton, Missouri where he worked for MODOT as an Area Supervisor for South East Missouri District 9. Following his retirement he and Imogene made their home in Ava, Missouri.
Don had made his profession of belief in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the VFW Post #5993 in Ava and was a 50 year Master Mason at the Masonic Lodge in Alton.
In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and watching St. Louis Cardinal Baseball games.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends.
Military Graveside services will be Monday, April 13, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Seymour Masonic Cemetery, in Seymour, Missouri with burial to follow, under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home, in Seymour, Missouri. Visitation will be 5:00-6:30 P.M. Sunday in the funeral home with Masonic Services. A memorial has been established to the Diabetes Association and may be made through Holman-Howe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 366, Seymour, Missouri 65746.
