Don Wood's Obituary
Don Peter Wood, age 87, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away at 8:05 pm, Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Parkview Healthcare Facility in Bolivar, Missouri, after a long illness. He was born November 28, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri to Charles Wood and Rose Ann Johnston Wood. Don was a retired Army Veteran serving during World War II, and was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He also was a retired school teacher for the Buffalo School District. He attended Georgetown University, then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s Degree. He then graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with a Master’s Degree. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sam Wood. Don is survived by his wife; Barbara J. Mitchell Wood of the home, and five children; Ron Wood and his wife Judy of St. Louis, Missouri and their children, Emily and Brendan, Donna Ann Smith and her husband Ron of Springfield, Missouri and their child Emma-Quin, Suzie Evans and her husband Ron of Bolivar, Missouri and their children, Keegan, Rachel, Garrett and Shan, Alfred Wood and his wife Lynda of Wildwood, Missouri and their children, Hali and Carlye, Theresa Clonts and her husband Brian of Branson, Missouri and their children, Peter and Ellie, two brothers; Duain Wood of Long Beach, California, and Dillon Wood of Guam. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, Friday, February 27, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bolivar, Missouri with Father Pat Wissman officiating under the direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar. Musical selections will be “How Great Thou Art”, “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Be Not Afraid”. Pallbearers will be by the Knights of Columbus. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri with Full Military Honors and Pallbearers provided by the Ft. Leonard Wood Honor Guards under the direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar, MO. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Citizen’s Memorial Hospice Program.
