He departed this life Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his home, near Lebanon, Missouri, with his loving wife and family by his bedside, at the age of seventy-five years, seven months, and twenty-six days.
On December 2, 1964, he was united in marriage to Carol Ann Starnes, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Donna Ann; three brothers, Robert, Chester, and Kenny Decker; two sisters, Carol Burgess and Betty Rogers; three nephews, Lonnie Wayne Burgess, John Williams, and John Lamb; and two brothers-in-law, Billy Rogers and David Henson.
Donald is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Carol, of the home; a son, Craig Decker, and his wife, Kimberly, of Lebanon, Missouri; four granddaughters, Taylor and Cameran Decker, and Maddysen Hiatt, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Nichole Porter, of Plato, Missouri; two great-grandsons, James and Zack Porter, of Plato, Missouri; a sister, Gladys Henson, of Lebanon, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Charles Starnes and Jimmy Burgess, both of Lebanon, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Williams, and her husband, Johnny, Mary Decker, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Louvenia Dyson, and her husband, Ed, of Huntsville, Arkansas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was born and raised in the Lebanon area, and lived most of his adult years there as well. After he and Carol were married, they made their home near Lebanon and lovingly raised their family. Don worked for several years in the stave hauling department at Independent Stave Company before becoming disabled.
Don loved his God and attended Grace Baptist Church for as long as his health allowed.
He greatly enjoyed being outdoors and particularly hunting and fishing with his son, Craig, and special nephews and cousins. He also liked gigging and gardening. He possessed a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. His family was very important to him and he especially loved his grandchildren.
Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations to New Home Cemetery may be made through the funeral home.
