Donald Henson (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Donald Dale Henson, son of Donald and Naomi Henson, was born June 13, 1954, in Pryor, Oklahoma. He departed this life Saturday, March 14, 2015, in Boone County Hospital, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of sixty years, nine months, and one day.
On September 10, 1999, he was united in marriage to Connie Nadine Barber, and they shared the last fifteen years.
Donald is survived by his wife, Connie, of the home; two sons, Don R. Henson, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Curran Henson, of Owasso, Oklahoma; a step-daughter, Tammy Perez, of the State of Michigan; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his parents, Donald Henson, and his wife, Bonnie, of Jay, Oklahoma, and Naomi McDonald, of Caney, Kansas; three brothers, Ronnie Henson, and his wife, Dee, of Overland Park, Kansas, Johnnie Henson, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lonnie McDonald, and his wife, Mailin, of Orlando, Florida; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised on a farm in Oklahoma and then joined the United States Army at the age of seventeen. He served his country faithfully in the Army and was stationed in Korea where he was a HAM radio operator. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to the Tulsa area and volunteered at the Tulsa Zoo. He also drove a truck for a short time and then began working at Builders Square. He worked as a carpenter doing building construction for some time and then worked for Direct TV for several years before taking a medical retirement.
He enjoyed drag racing in his younger years, and always had a great love for horses. He had even done some Quarter horse racing. He liked being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing and gardening. He also was a good automobile mechanic and a great cook. He was very patriotic and was extremely proud of his Cherokee Indian heritage. He loved life, was trustworthy and honest, and was always willing to help others. He possessed a delightful sense of humor and loved to laugh. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren.
Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
