Donald Pannell's Obituary
Donald Dean Pannell, known to some as “Don”, to others “Dean” passed away April 19, 2010 at his home in Bolivar, Missouri at the age of 74 years and 7 months. He was born October 13, 1935 at Kansas City, Kansas to Arthur and Thelma (Thomas) Pannell. Donald graduated from Drexel High School, Drexel Missouri. He served in the National Guard Marines. He worked as a jet engine mechanic and machine operator at Westinghouse Electric in Kansas City, Missouri. After Westinghouse closed he began working for Bendix Aviation as an Inspector. On March 13, 1955, Don and Basil Sue Layland were married in Kansas City, MO. In 1960, Don accepted the position as Terminal Operator for a new pipeline; Mid America Pipeline (MAPCO). He moved his family to the Iowa City, Iowa area. His employment with MAPCO covered 36.5 years when he retired in 1996. Don enjoyed many years of outdoor wildlife sports: fishing, hunting, and hunting with field dogs. He received many awards for his dogs at field trials. Don accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior when he was 12 years of age. The family attended the Presbyterian church. He was preceded in death by his mother Thelma, father Arthur and one sister Alice O’Malley and brothers Bill Pannell and Bob Pannell. Don is survived by his loving and caring wife of 55 years, Basil Sue of the home in Bolivar, Missouri. Also, by two sons Calvin and wife Pat of Fort Worth, Texas, and Mark and his wife Pam of Colorado Springs, Colorado and one daughter Deanna Pannell. And three grandchildren, Aaron Pannell, Lisa Pannell (Morales), April (Irwin) Busch and six great grandchildren. One sister Thelma Avise of Lake Lotawana, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Funeral Service celebrating Don’s life will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Butler Funeral Home Chapel in Bolivar.
