Donald E. Sexton (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Donald Eugene Sexton, son of Samuel and Sina Scrivener Sexton, was born June 17, 1933, in Erie, Kansas. He departed this life Wednesday, September 24, 2014, in Westside Health Center, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years, three months, and five days.
On April 2, 1965, he was united in marriage to Lena F. Hodges, and they shared the last forty-nine years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis Sexton; and several brothers and sisters.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Lena, of the home; three daughters, Denise McCulloch, of Swansboro, North Carolina, Angela Bryant, of Springfield, Missouri, and Debbie Cain, of Marshfield, Missouri; a son, Tim Sexton, of Marshfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Tim, Lenae, Troy, and Trent; a brother, Virgil Sexton, of Buffalo, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Eastern Kansas, and graduated from high school in Garden City, Missouri. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he continued his studies at Drury University where he eventually earned his Specialist Degree in Education. Donald had a career in education that spanned over forty years, beginning with the Dry and Dusty Elementary School and then at Gasconade C-4 Schools. He retired as the Principal of Gasconade C-4 Schools.
He and Lena made their home on their cattle farm near Phillipsburg, and Donald enjoyed caring for his cattle.
Donald had attended First United Methodist Church where he was involved in the Latch Key Program for some time. He and Lena had also attended Phillipsburg Christian Church.
He had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. He was quite a story teller and liked visiting with his friends. He had a passion for education and loved working with children. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated educator, and a patriotic citizen and friend.
Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, and left at the funeral home.
