Donna Simmons (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Surrounded by her loving family singing ‘Amazing Grace’ to her, Donna Simmons, age 77, of Dunnegan, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Mo.
She was born April 6, 1941 to George T. (Tom) and Myrtle Leota (Broyles) Harris. She had three sisters: Betty Smith, Pat Barnes, Nancy Stockton and one Brother: Jerry Harris. Donna was saved at an early age. In her later years she attended the Spring Creek Presbyterian Church.
On January 5, 1957 she was united in marriage to Charles H. Simmons. To this union were born three sons: Ronald Matthew, Donald Mark, John William and two daughters: Teresa Elaine and Penny Lynn.
When she was 48, she went back to school and received her GED. She was a dispatcher at Humansville City Police Department for 2 years. Then she became a dietary supervisor at Stockton Nursing Home for 22 years. Next, she worked at Parkview Nursing Home until her retirement.
She loved nature, gardening, flowers and especially humming birds. Every spring she would put out multiple humming bird feeders for her enjoyment. Her life centered around her family. She spent many pleasurable years working their family farm planting, gardening and canning. Along with her sons she put up hay and helped feed the cows. And how she could sew! She would sew dresses and shirts for the family. One of their fondest memories are the western shirts she would sew for her boys. She was a caregiver for her mother and she spent many heartfelt hours baby-sitting her grandchildren.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Ronald (Daniele), Mark (Kathy), John (Cindy), Teresa and Penny; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Harris; and a dear friend, Willa Hammons.
Donna was the kind of person who will be deeply missed by all who truly knew and loved her.
