Donnell "Buck" Armstrong (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Lifelong Polk County resident D.L. “Buck” Armstrong, 83, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at his Bolivar home following a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 7, 1935, in Polk County to Lee Armstrong and Orlena Abel Armstrong. Buck was a 1954 graduate of Halfway High School. He married Barbara Armstrong on March 11, 1963, in Kansas City.
Buck worked for a brief time as a lift truck operator for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. However, Buck spent the majority of his life as a dairy farmer on his dairy farm in Halfway. He truly loved farming and stock car racing. Buck was elected to the Missouri Racing Hall of Fame in 2007 and was inducted based on his many years of successful racing throughout southwest Missouri. He also made several trips, every year, with his friends to attend NASCAR races throughout the South.
He is survived by Barbara Armstrong, his wife of 55 years. Buck is also survived by two children, Cindy Calbert, M.D., of Lee’s Summit and Richard Calbert of El Dorado Springs, along with five grandchildren, Brian Rutledge of Halfway, Kristal Benjamin of Blue Springs, Donna Thornton of Olathe, Nicole Bricker of Columbia and Emily Bricker of Kansas City. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and several cousins.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at New Bethel Cemetery in Halfway.
