Dora Barnett's Obituary
Dora Lucertia Barnett, daughter of William Burtner and Susan Pearl Biggs Mizer, was born September 22, 1923, near Lebanon, in Laclede County, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, February 18, 2010, in St. John’s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years, four months, and twenty-six days. On March 13, 1948, in Richland, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Leslie Albert Barnett, and to this union two daughters and four sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie, on July 7, 1959; a son, Thomas L. Barnett; three grandchildren, Travis D. Barnett, James Barnett, and Jackie Dawn Hopkins; a brother, Clarence Mizer, and his wife, Edna; and a sister, Pauline Guyett. Dora is survived by two daughters, Ellen Hopkins, and her husband, Jack, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Teresa Starr, of Falcon, Missouri; three sons, Leslie W. Barnett, and Jay Barnett, and his wife, Cathy, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Ricky Barnett, and his wife, Debra, of Falcon, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Laclede County area. After she and Leslie were married, they made their home in the Lebanon community, and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, Dora also worked at the Rice Stix Factory for several years, and then was employed in the housekeeping department at various local nursing homes. Dora professed her faith at an early age and was a member of Community Baptist Church, near Lebanon. In her spare time she enjoyed camping, fishing, floating, and traveling. She also liked going to tractor pulls in Richland, Missouri. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed caring for grandchildren. Dora was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the year Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday February 24, 2010 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lowery Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday evening 7-8:30 p.m. under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.
