Doran "Max" Roweton (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Doran Max “Buck” Roweton passed away Friday, April 7, 2017 at Parkview Health Care Facility in Bolivar, Missouri. Max was born at home in Halfway, Missouri on September 13, 1935 to Walter Allen and Osra Ann Legan Roweton. Max was an only child.
As a child, Max lived with his parents in the Halfway area. The family moved to Bolivar when Max was in the 4th grade where he later graduated from high school. Max was active in sports and Future Farmers of America (FFA). He was a four year letterman in football and basketball. Max was the second FFA member from Bolivar High School to receive the American Farmer Degree.
Following high school, Max attended Southwest Baptist College, where he played basketball. After two years, Max transferred to the University of Missouri-Columbia where he was active in the Farmhouse Fraternity and where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Agriculture.
It was while at the University of Missouri that Max began a courtship with Rose Douglas that would lead to their marriage on August 16, 1959. Max and Rose shared 57 years together and had five children.
Max was a farmer and a merchant. In 1969, he took over ownership of the Western Auto store in Bolivar from his father and mother, who had operated the store since 1948. He actively managed the store (now Roweton’s Home Center) until the mid-1980’s when he turned his attention more to the farms that he so enjoyed. Max was a successful farmer and loved farming.
Max served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He later served on the Bolivar School Board and was a member of the Bolivar Rotary Club, serving as President in 1968-69.
Max was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bolivar where he was baptized on October 30, 1949 by Pastor Knox Lambert.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Elvin and Florence Douglas, one brother-in-law Elvin Sidney Douglas, Jr. and one sister-in-law Synda Douglas. He is survived by his wife Ellen Rose Douglas Roweton, by a brother-in-law, Kerry Douglas and wife Lynda and by his five children, Vicki Morgan and husband Bruce of Branson, Kendal Roweton and fiancé Terri Wilson of Beverly Hills, Florida, Denni McColm and husband Steve of Fair Play, Marla Kemp and husband Wes of Bolivar and Kelly Roweton and wife Sue of Bolivar. Max is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Baker Morgan and wife Jennifer, Zac Morgan, Colby Morgan, Josh Morgan and wife Kellyn, Mykal Whitney and husband Cody, Keli Francka and husband B.L., Luther Roweton, Levin Roweton and his significant other Lindsey Miller, Bethany, Cherith and Mattea Roweton, Tyler Kemp and fiancé Samantha, Landon Kemp, Rylee Hayes and husband Brian, Kait, Becca and Sam Roweton. Max was also blessed with 9 great grandchildren, Trace, Ty, Tripp and Tuff Doran Whitney, Boe, Jax, Kellsey and Dal Francka, and Madelyn Rose Morgan.
Memorial contributions can be made to Parkview Health Care Facility, 1500 N. Oakland, Bolivar, Missouri 65613 in memory of Max to be utilized for scholarships for staff seeking to advance their nursing education or to the charity of your choice.
Visitation for Max Roweton will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, MO. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church in Bolivar, MO under the direction of the Butler Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
