Doris J. Bates (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Doris Jean Bates, 93 of Bolivar, Missouri, passed away on Saturday morning, July 23, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield after a short illness.
She was born on May 11, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Charles Nichols and Edna Sterrett Nichols.
Doris grew up in the Humansville area, working on the family farm and graduated from Humansville High School.
Doris worked alongside her husband Raymond operating Kelly Upholstery Company in Springfield, Missouri for close to 25 years.
Some of the hobbies Doris enjoyed included square dancing, country music, and many activities to keep her physically and mentally active. Doris would exercise every day at the Polk County Senior Center for at least an hour. She enjoyed the activities and friendships she developed during her time there.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Raymond Kelly and George Bates, her son Darrel Kelly, her daughter Susie Gregory, daughter-in-law Phyllis Kelly, and her brother Bud Nichols.
Doris is survived by her her sons, Charles “Charley” Shepherd of Salem, Oregon, Rick Kelly and David Kelly of Bolivar.
A memorial service for Doris will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar.
