Doris Louise Swaim's Obituary
Doris Louise Lortscher Swaim, daughter of Fred and Pearl Haxton Lortscher, was born March 15, 1917 in Salem, Nebraska. She departed this life Friday, February 17, 2006 in Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of eighty-eight years, eleven months and two days. On December 27, 1935 in Troy, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Clyde Edwin Swaim. He preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Lortscher, and an infant brother. Doris is survived by two daughters, Shirley Barber, and her husband, Denzil (Whimpy), of Camdenton, Missouri, and Virginia Byrd, and her husband, Arlon, of Lebanon, Missouri; a son, Donald Swaim, and his wife, Rosemary, of LaJoya, Texas; a devoted and caring caregiver of ten years, Edith Harris; thirteen grandchildren, Robert and David Barber, Denise Wiethop, Scott, Kathy and Steve Byrd, Janet, Michael, Samantha, Sarah, Ashley and Zachary Swaim and Justine Haddix; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Lortscher, of San Diego, California. She was raised on a farm near Hiawatha, Kansas, and graduated from Fairview High School in Kansas. After she and Clyde were married, they settled into farm life in Kansas. In the 1950’s they moved to San Diego, California where she worked as a secretary for the Department of the Navy. Due to Clyde’s health, they moved to Camdenton in 1959 and built the house they lived in. She worked at First National Bank, Wright-Price Accounting and was secretary to a colonel at Fort Leonard Wood. Doris was a seamstress, reader, hiker, pinochle player, worker of hard crossword puzzles, piano player, and traveler and loved her vegetable garden. She had been in a bowling league and with a bridge club. Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2006, in the Dale Blair Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri.
