Doris Sickels' Obituary
Doris Ann Sickels, daughter of Arthur and Edna (Hollenbeck) Bishop, was born September 21, 1923, in Hillsboro, Oregon. She departed this life Sunday, March 12, 2006, in St. John’s Regional Health Center, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty two years, five months, and eleven days. In November of 1973 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Sickels and together they have shared the past thirty-two years. She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant son, Lawrence Allen, Jr. Doris is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of the home; three daughters, Vernita Alexander, and her husband, Dan, of Oregon City, Oregon, Kathy Brazeal, and her husband, Mike, of Ava, Missouri, and Carolyn Randall, of Shawnee, Kansas; three sons, Denny Ray Allen, of Wasilla, Alaska, Eddie Jon Allen, and his wife, Soon, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Gary Allen, and his wife, Debbie, of Mansfield, Missouri; twenty-two grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Denny Bishop, and his wife, Alexis, of Portland, Oregon; a number of nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in Oregon and moved to Mansfield in 1971. Along with being a devoted homemaker caring for her family, she also owned and operated the Western Café, in Mansfield for two years. Later she worked at the Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory and the Mansfield Nursing home, where she was a cook. In her spare time she greatly enjoyed crocheting. Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield. Burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield, Missouri. Smith, Ilenia (McCrite), 90 Ilenia McCrite Smith, daughter of Sidney and Cornelia Archer McCrite, was born September 4, 1915, in Bryant, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, March 22, 2006, in St. John’s Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety years, six months, and eighteen days. In 1954, she was united in marriage to Volney Smith, and together they shared thirty-one years before his passing on January 2, 1985. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, Marshall Smith; two brothers, Elmer and Ray McCrite; and a sister, Elva Bogart. Ilenia is survived by a stepson, Leo Smith, and his wife, Barbara, of Irving, Texas; a grandson, David Smith, and his wife, Lauren, of Waco, Texas; a great-grandson, Evan Smith; five nephews, Norman, Donald, Richard, and Lloyd McCrite, and Alfred Aldridge; three nieces, Betty Cleland, Kathy Diecer, and Nondas Bogart; several cousins; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She graduated from Ava High School in the Class of 1936, and continued her education at Southwest Missouri State College, where she graduated with a degree in education. She began her forty year teaching career at area country schools in 1936, and retired in 1976 from Mansfield Schools after twenty-nine years. Ilenia was a member of Mansfield First Baptist Church where she attended faithfully for as long as her health allowed. She also belonged to the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and reading, and loved visiting with her family and friends. Ilenia will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of her family and many friends. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for all those who knew and loved her. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Satruday, March 25, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield, Missouri. Memorials to Victory Mission may be made through the funeral home.
