Dorotha Newsom's Obituary
On Thursday, July 12, 2012 Dorotha Emogean Newsom departed this life surrounded by her loved ones in her home near Seymour, Missouri at the age of ninety years, four months and twenty-nine days. Dorotha was born February 15, 1922 to Bert and Rosa Henry in Cedar Gap, Missouri.
Dorotha was raised in the Cedar Gap area. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1939. Shortly after Dorotha married Floyd Bradley and to this union one son was born. The young couple traveled from Seymour to New Mexico. After Floyd’s untimely passing the young family moved back to Seymour. On December 7, 1943 Frank Newsom and Dorotha was united in marriage, and to this union a son and daughter were born. Together the family then moved to Kansas before settling back in the Seymour area in 1961 on the family farm.
She enjoyed traveling the back roads around the Smack Out area reminiscing about the good Ol’ Days. Faithfully attending her family or her high school reunions, Dorotha always enjoyed bringing people together. In fact, any opportunity to get together and eat was welcomed. A talented seamstress she retired from H.D. Lee in the mid-eighties. She also made clothes for her family, her grandchildren and lovingly for the dolls the granddaughters cherished. She was at her happiest surrounded by her family on the farm where she lovingly raised them.
Dorotha made her profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in 1952 and was a member of the Harmony Free-Will Baptist Church of Seymour. She lived her faith in caring for her family, being a good neighbor and serving her community. In her younger years, she encouraged teens as a leader of the Girls Guard. She also encouraged her family to use their talents to glorify the Lord.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Floyd Bradley; Frank Newsom; her brother Everett Henry and wife Wilma, and Carl Henry and wife Gladys; and her granddaughter Melissa Bradley. Dorotha leaves behind her children Floyd Bradley and wife Marilyn of Topeka, Kansas, Rodger Newsom and wife Joyce and Carla Morpeth both of Seymour, Missouri; her grandchildren Brent, Allen, Dawn, Jeannetta, Kristi, Tommy, Jeffrey, and Kimberly; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other dear family and friends.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and a caring neighbor and friend, Dorotha Newsom leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, a lasting faith and an endearing sense of humor to those she loved. We will cherish the memories that she created for us, and hold on to the hope that we will one day meet again.
