Dorothy "Doreen" Angst (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Dorothy “Doreen” King Angst, daughter of Clyde and Martha “Jessie” Richard King, was born into this world surrounded by the love of her family on November 2, 1944, in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this world surrounded by the love of her family, in her home, near Lebanon, Missouri, on Monday, September 14, 2020, at the age of seventy-five years, ten months, and twelve days.
On August 8, 1964, she was united in marriage to Ronald R. Angst and the couple lived in Brighton, Colorado for a year, and then Eureka, Missouri for two years before returning to Lebanon where they worked together on their farm and raised their two daughters and one son.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Doreen is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Ron, of the home; two daughters, Natasha Angst Riley, and her husband, Patrick, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Erin Angst Baker, and her husband, Gregg, of Columbia, Missouri; a son, Ryan Angst, and his wife, Shelby, of Lebanon, Missouri; five grandchildren, Melaina Riley Bergman, Marissa Riley, Samuel Angst, Lily Angst, and Ariana Baker; two brothers; one sister; and several nieces and nephews; She was born and raised near Lebanon, and, at the age of four, began first grade at Flag Pond School. She graduated from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1961, at the age of sixteen. Doreen attended Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, for two years, and then finished her bachelor’s degree at Southwest Missouri State University in 1964, when she was nineteen years old. Later, Doreen would complete her Master’s degree from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri.
She taught in public schools for thirty-three years. She taught junior high and high school English, elementary grades, and special education. During her teaching career, she was employed as a teacher in Brighton, Eureka, Joel E. Barber, Lebanon, Fort Leonard Wood, and Conway. She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association for many years.
Doreen was born into a loving Christian family and attended Emmanuel Chapel when she was growing up. At the age of eight, she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized near the big bridge going down to the Niangua River near Bennett Spring State Park. As an adult, Doreen was an active member of the Liberty Freewill Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and the piano player for many years.
Doreen had many gifts and talents. She was an incredibly loving, patient, and kind wife, mother and grandmother. Doreen was an excellent pianist and had a beautiful alto singing voice and played and sang on a Lebanon radio station each week when she was a teenager. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and was a fabulous cook. She liked spending time outside working in her garden, tending her flowers and watching the birds. After retirement, she enjoyed raising dogs and swimming at the YMCA. Doreen was loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew her.
Private services will be held this week. Burial will be at Lonesome Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dotson Cemetery. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
