Dorothy Mitchell (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Dorothy P. Mitchell was born July 3, 1919, in a white frame two-story house in Beaver County, Oklahoma, two miles north of Floris, Oklahoma, to William Garrett and Ella Jane Shively. After Dorothy graduated from high school, she fell in love with a man she met at church named Fredrick Mitchell. Fred and Dorothy married in 1938, and in 1940 moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas. Two sons were born, Glenn in 1944 and Jerry in 1945. Fred and Dorothy also lovingly cared for a niece, Evelyn, whom they considered a daughter.
In 1960, they moved to Mansfield, Missouri. Dorothy was an assistant librarian in the school library and became a famous storyteller. Dorothy loved playing piano, playing games, acting in plays, writing poems, and baking homemade cinnamon rolls. Dorothy was a charter member of Ozark Mountain Players that was started in fall 1976. They produced melodramas, musicals, and plays. In 1991, Dorothy, Pat Allen, and Terry Spyres produced the Little House Play. Dorothy collaborated with Terry and Pat to write several songs for their play that will forever be cherished by audiences for generations to come. Dorothy was a devoted Christian, and faithfully attended the Church of the Nazarene.
