Dorothy Pittman Casto's Obituary
Dorothy Alice Pittman Casto, daughter of Jesse E. and Cora Bell Oglesby Shafer, was born, February 26, 1914, in Alva, Oklahoma. She departed this life, Saturday, December 23, 2006, in her home in Camdenton, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, nine months and twenty-seven days. On January 26, 1942 she was united in marriage to Fred Pittman and to this union four children were born. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1973. On November 18, 2000, she was united in marriage to Owen Casto. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her husband, Owen of the home; four children, Ann Massey of Camdenton, Missouri, John Pittman of Blue Springs, Missouri, Nancy Clymer of Fairfield, Illinois, and Patricia Holloway and her husband, Earl, of Camdenton, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and five great, great-grandchildren. She was raised in Oklahoma and attended the Teachers’ College in Alva, Oklahoma, after high school. She was later married to Fred Pittman and they made their home in northern Missouri. They later moved to Florida for a time and then to Kansas City. They moved to Camdenton in the mid 1960’s. Dorothy was a school teacher and had taught in Florida and Kansas City. She retired from the Camdenton Schools as an elementary special education teacher after many years of service. Dorothy had made a profession of faith in Christ and had been a member of New Home Baptist Church in Camdenton. She later transferred her membership to Foundation Fellowship Church in Camdenton. In her spare time she enjoyed flowers and birds. She raised many beautiful flowers and white doves. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. We will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006, in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. Burial will be in the New Home Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri.
