Douglas A. Jones (Mansfield)'s Obituary
Douglas A. Jones, son of Gorman Sikes and Anna Avenail Moles Jones, was born September 6, 1956 in Las Cruces, New Mexico and departed this life on January 25, 2017 in his home in Mansfield, Missouri at the age of sixty-years, four months and nineteen days.
He was united in marriage to Calleen Wingo on June 20, 1981 and to this union two sons, Evan and Colton were born.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gorman, uncles, Junior Millsap, Gerald and J.D. Jones, aunts, Neva Fakes, Delores Smith and Phyllis Odle.
Doug is survived by his wife of 35 years, Calleen of the home; two sons, Evan Jones of Oak Grove, Missouri, Colton Jones and wife, Chelsea, of Mansfield; granddaughter, Addison; mother, Avenail Jones of Norwood, Missouri; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clifford Wingo and Jerrie Wingo of Mansfield; two sisters-in-law and their families, Kathy Angi of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Paula Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; aunt, Evelyn Millsap of Mtn. Grove; two uncles, Gaylen Jones and wife, June, of Norwood and Jimmy Jones and wife, Betty of Odessa, Missouri; numerous cousins, other relatives and many, many, many friends.
He was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico and moved with his parents to Norwood, Missouri in 1961 at the age of 5. He graduated from Norwood High School in the Class of 1974. In 1978, he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar. He began his career in education and coaching in Mansfield in 1980. He then went to Fordland Schools from 1982 to 1988. He returned to Mansfield in the fall of 1988 where he worked until his passing. Under his guidance, the Mansfield Lions reached the state semifinals 6 times (1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996 and 2005) and won back to back state championship titles in 1995 and 1996. He spent more than 3 decades coaching high school baseball, mostly in Mansfield. He coached a state record 741 victories in his career and was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
Doug made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Mansfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
In his spare time he loved golfing, baseball and softball.
Coach Jones was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, educator, coach and a “WINNER”. We celebrate his life and many accomplishments both on and off the field.
