Doyle Sumwalt's Obituary
Doyle Wayne Sumwalt, son of Floyd Albert and Lydia Catherine Kittle Sumwalt, was born October 21, 1919, in Hutchison, Kansas. He departed this life Saturday, August 30, 2008, in Christian Health Care North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, ten months, and eight days. On August 17, 1979, he was united in marriage to Doris Marie Paul and together they shared twenty-six years before her passing on December 13, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Johnnie and James Tyre; a brother, Kenneth; and a sister, Mary Lucille. Doyle is survived by two daughters, Lundy Carol Mizer, and her husband, Don, of Springfield, Missouri, and Elizabeth Marie Phillips, and her husband, Ned, of Kansas, Oklahoma; a son, Farris Lee Tyre, and his wife, Yon, of Clarksville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Shawn Lee Mizer, James Christopher Tyre, Angela Dawn Verbeck, Freddie Tyre, Lundy June Morrison, Mariel Donita McCarver, Brian Glen Phillips, and Elizabeth Marie Watkins; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was raised in the State of Kansas by his grandmother Kittle. He then served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II. For a few years, he was a partner in a T.G. & Y. Store, and then worked for the General Motors Manufacturing Company in Kansas City, Missouri for thirty years. After retiring, he and Doris moved to Lebanon, Missouri in 1981. Doyle had made his profession of belief in Christ and followed the Baptist faith. During his retirement years, he enjoyed farming, and he and Doris raised sheep and rabbits. He also liked caring for his garden and doing woodworking projects. He also enjoyed helping Doris with her spinning and weaving and particularly with her demonstrations. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doyle was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday September 2, 2008 at the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery.
