Dwain W. Darrow (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Dwain W. Darrow, age 95 of Platte Woods, Missouri, formerly of Lebanon, Missouri, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 in North Kansas City Hospital. He was born January 17, 1928 near Lebanon, Missouri to Everett Darrow and Effie McGuire Darrow.
Dwain spent his early years in the Lebanon and Eldridge area. When he was old enough to do so, he went to work for the railroad. On May 31, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mildred May Sherrer and to this union, three daughters were born. Together they have shared over seventy-seven years of love, joy, and weathered many storms of life in their years together.
Following his marriage to Mildred, Dwain joined the United States Army and served for a short time. He and Mildred then moved to Kansas City where he worked for a bakery. He then worked in construction for a time and actually built a three bedroom home for him and Mildred to raise their family. He loved building things and built items for his house, as well as shared his talents with family and friends.
He then changed careers and became an over-the-road truck driver. His career as a truck driver earned him the three million mile safety award. After he retired from the trucking company, he retired and they returned to Lebanon and lived for a few years. They then moved back to the Kansas City area to be closer to family.
He and Mildred were active in the Assembly of God Church. Dwain loved God and looked forward to spending eternity in Heaven.
Dwain was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie and Lorena; his brothers, Edgle, Vencil and David; and infant brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred, of the home; three daughters, Brenda Wise of Parkville, Missouri, Karen Davis of Platte Woods, Missouri and Rita Wiley of Parkville, Missouri; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Wasmner of Eldon, Missouri and Betty Jo Cox of Marshfield, Missouri.
Dwain’s life rotated around his family, church and work. He saw many, many changes in his 95 years on earth and will always be remembered for being a trusted friend and hard worker. He lived through the great depression and was part of the greatest generation that ever lived. He will most certainly be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
