Dwight Eugene "Gene" Albertson Sr. (Springfield)'s Obituary
Dwight Eugene “Gene” Albertson, Sr., departed this life Thursday, January 9, 2014, at his home with family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 60 years and 21 days young.
Gene was born December 19, 1953, to Johnson and Betty (Russell) Albertson in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was raised and lived in the Chattanooga area with his two sisters, Carol and Shinel.
In recent years Gene had moved to the Springfield, Missouri, area where he met and married Janice Ann (Bowen) Albertson on September 26, 2012. This union created a blended family of nine children.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
Gene leaves behind his loving wife Janice, of the home; son, Dwight Albertson, Jr. and wife Jackie, of Chicago, Illinois; daughter, Christina Thralls and husband David, of Tennessee; son, Andrew Albertson and wife Melissa, of Tennessee; stepdaughter, Lisa Engelhardt and husband Ric, of Ava, Missouri; stepdaughter, Tonya Rains and husband Tony, of Garrison, Missouri; stepson, Olan Morelan and wife Carrie, of Fair Grove, Missouri; stepdaughter, Tammy Galbraith and husband Dale, of Seymour, Missouri; stepdaughter, Amanda Larson and husband Jeff, of Rogersville, Missouri; and stepson, Jeremy Morelan and wife Alex, of Marshfield, Missouri; sister, Carol Thacker of Tennessee; and sister, Shinel Castle of Alabama; grandsons, Jaxon Albertson and Ethan Albertson; in addition to many more family members and dear friends – he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Gene was a Godly man and baptized as a child. He was baptized again December 15, 2013, to reaffirm his faith in Christ.
He was an over-the-road truck driver for over 30 years. Those who knew him saw that truck driving was his passion; he loved the freedom of the open road.
Gene was also a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish each moment spent with him and the memories he created for those who knew him.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at 2:00pm, at Northside General Baptist Church in Springfield.
