Dwight Henderson's Obituary
Dwight Harvey Henderson was born the second son of Foy Ernest and Parlee Jones Henderson on July 11, 1922. He departed this life Sunday, November 30, 2008 in St. John’s Regional Health Center, Springfield, Missouri at the age of eighty-six years, four months, and nineteen days.
On June 25, 1938, in Camdenton, Missouri, Dwight was united in marriage to Ruby Sikes, and together they have shared the past seventy years.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Johnny Dwight Henderson on December 12, 1963; and a brother, Orville Dwaine Henderson.
He is survived by his wife Ruby, of the home; two sons, Ronnie Henderson and wife Judy and Byron Henderson and wife Cathy, all of Hartville, Missouri; one daughter, Beth Simpson and husband Jim, of Marshfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Kim Ferriel and husband Mike, Kevin Henderson and wife Ronda, Shelly Muckerheide and husband Troy, Selena Freeman and husband Jon, Amy Splain and husband Carl, Annette Culver and husband Nathan, and Alana Kelley and husband Ronnie; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Darrell Henderson of Wichita, Kansas; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Dwight was born near Grovespring, and attended school at Hartville. He spent most of his life in the Hartville area, living with his loving wife Ruby, on the same seventy acre farm for the past sixty-eight years.
For several years he managed a slaughter house and was known as a “Country Vet”, helping many neighbors with their livestock. He also established a feeder calf business, which transported local cattle to Iowa.
Dwight was saved on December 12, 1963 in the hospital, following Johnny’s death, and later that night they broke the ice at Woods Fork River where he was baptized. He attended Hartville First Freewill Baptist Church and Pleasant Hill Church until his health began to fail.
In the early sixties, Dwight helped to form the South Central Horse Show Association, in which he served as a charter member as well as an officer. He also helped reorganize the Hartville Horse Show placing it under the management of the Hartville Saddle Club.
He and several others organized Gasconade Neighbors, where he served as a board member for many years. He also served on the Hartville School Board for eight years.
He enjoyed having BBQ’s and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and loved taking them out with the horses.
He had a passion for horses and at one time he and Ruby owned fourteen horses and colts, and won numerous first place trophies and the South Central Horse Show Association high point trophy many times.
Dwight was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories he has created for his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville. Burial will follow in Steele Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Wright County Children's Home in care of the funeral home at P.O.
