E. June Smikle (Seymour)'s Obituary
June Smikle, adored wife and mother, passed away peacefully with loved ones at her side the evening of Saturday, December12, 2015, at Select Specialty Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, after a lengthy illness. June was seventy-six years, nine months and fourteen days of age at the time of her passing.
One of five children, she was born Elda June Dix on February 28, 1939, in Seymour, Missouri, to Charles and Edna (Turner) Dix. June was a true life-time resident of Seymour, having lived here all of her years. She was a graduate of the Seymour High School Class of 1957. On September 17, 1966, June married her best friend and love of her life, David Winslow Smikle, and to this union a daughter and son were born.
The Smikles raised their family in Seymour where June was a dedicated wife and doting mother. Her children were her pride and joy until the moment she died. Along with David, June worked outside the home to provide a good life for her family. A loyal and hard-working employee to H.D. Lee in Seymour, she retired after more than 30 years as a seamstress in the denim factory. After retirement, she found reward in working as a caregiver for Oxford Hospice.
June was a Christian woman, saved and baptized as a young girl. She was an active member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church until her health began to fail. Quilting, sewing and embroidering were her favorite pastimes. She made many baby quilts for ladies in her church who were having children. June also enjoyed and collected antiques and figurines.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ron Cook; two brothers, Bill Dix, and Roy Dix and his wife, Juanita; mother and father-in-law, Harold and Ruth Smikle; and brother-in-law, Darrell Smikle. June leaves behind her forever-devoted husband of forty-nine years, David; daughter, Greta Cook of Marshfield, Missouri; son, Craig Smikle and his husband, Jeff Parson, of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, R.D. and Doris Dix, of Seymour; sister, Judy Lawson of Fordland, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Janice Smikle and Pat Smikle, both of Marshfield, and Lizzie Dix of Nixa, Missouri; brother-in-law, Harold and Arcilia Smikle, of Sandia, Texas; a host of nieces and nephews; her most loyal and loving furry baby, Penny; and many more neighbors and dear friends, all made after having lived a lifetime in the community. Elda June Smikle lived a life that set an example for her children. June was a devoted wife and loving mother. June was a loyal and caring sister and sister-in-law. She was a fun-loving lady with a good sense of humor and a bright smile. June will be sadly missed by her close-knit family and all those fortunate enough to have known her as a friend.
