E. Virginia Walters (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Edith Virginia Walters, daughter of James Cletus and Lena Mae Evans Johnson, was born November 24, 1926, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. She departed this life Friday, April 23, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, in her home, near Falcon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-four years, four months, and twenty-four days.
On July 20, 1946, in Oakland, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Barney Leroy Walters, and to this union nine children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Johnson, and Lena Mae English; her step-father, Russell English; her husband of fifty-one years, Barney, on December 6, 1997; a son, James Walters; a grandson, Benjamin Intres; a great-granddaughter, Victoria McClure; and a brother, Sonny Johnson.
Virginia is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Nielson, and her husband, Soren, of Cabool, Missouri, Virginia “Jenny” Intres, and her husband, Chuck, of Falcon, Missouri, and Mary Ann Hicks, and her husband, Billy, of Lebanon, Missouri; five sons, Lonnie Walters, and his wife, Beverly, of Wyoming, Michigan, Gerald “Jerry” Walters, and his wife, Debbie, of Springfield, Missouri, Doug Walters, and his wife, Sherry, Ed Walters, and his wife, Star, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Jake Walters, and his wife, Jennifer, of Falcon, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Judy Walters, of Hebron, Nebraska; fifty-eight grandchildren; eighty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; a sister, Dorothy Hicks, of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; two sisters-in-law, Norma Mansker, of Falcon, Missouri, and Linda Ernest, of Calvin, Pennsylvania; a number of nieces and nephews; an aunt, Arlene “Mickie” Evans, of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; several cousins; and many close friends.
She was born and raised in Pennsylvania and graduated from high school there. She came to Missouri in 1946, and was united in marriage to Barney later that same year. After she and Barney were married, they made their home on their farm near Falcon, Missouri, and lovingly raised their three daughters and six sons. Virginia was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family and worked diligently caring for her children and creating a loving and close knit family that would eventually include one hundred forty-two grandchildren. Through the years, the family would gather on Sundays, enjoying each other’s company along with Virginia’s home cooking.
Virginia made her profession of faith in Christ and was baptized into the Falcon Baptist Church.
She enjoyed working in her garden and liked cooking. She was particularly well known for her delicious fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Family was always important to Virginia and she would always enjoy being surrounded by her grandchildren and visiting with friends that would come to the farm.
Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her ninety-four years.
Graveside service for Virginia Walters will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021, in Monarch Cemetery with Rev. Caleb McClure officiating and under direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 31, 2021 in the funeral home.
