Eddie Candler (Lebanon)'s Obituary
John Edwin Candler, son of Clyde and Cordelia J. Jones Candler, was born March 15, 1940, near Russ, Missouri. He departed this life Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in his home, near Russ, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years, eleven months, and sixteen days.
On August 20, 1965, he was united in marriage to Marcella Frances Abbey, and to this union one daughter and three sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Eric Candler; and two brothers, Omar and Raymond Candler.
Eddie, as he was called by all of his family and friends, is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Marcella, of the home; a daughter, Belinda Clark, and her husband, Gene, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sons, Jeffery Candler, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Aaron Candler, of Springfield, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Katlyn, Hannah, Selbi, Megan, Jeffrey, and his wife, Emily, Taylor, and her husband, Justin, Brittany, and her husband, Dillon, Tiffany, Connor, Nikki, and Courtney; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Cleo Candler, of Lebanon, Missouri; and a special sister-in-law, Colleen Abbey, of the home; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Lebanon, Missouri, and graduated in the Class of 1958, which were the first graduates to have their commencement in the Lebanon Field House. He served in the United States Army National Guard for several years. After he and Marcella were married, they made their home near Lebanon, and lovingly raised their family. Eddie worked for Laclede Metal Products for three years, and then was one of six workers to help George Ed Carr in starting The Durham Company where he worked for thirty-eight years. He and Marcella also owned and operated a small farm, which he dearly loved.
He was an avid deer hunter, fisherman, and turkey hunter, and loved working and caring for his farm. He taught all of his grandchildren how to fish. He was a kind man who was always willing to help others. He was a true gentleman and a great example for others. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed having time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure all the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
