On June 25, 1931, she was united in marriage to Milan E. Brackett, and to this union one son was born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milan, on April 17, 1974; two brothers, Lloyd and Virgil Vance; and a sister, Geneva Atkinson. Edith is survived by her son, Ed Brackett, and his wife, Helen, of Lebanon, Missouri; two grandchildren, Camille Strope, and her husband, Stan, of Columbia, Missouri, and Wesley Brackett, and his wife, Paula, of Lebanon, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren, Margaret, Cassie, Rachel, Jacob, Nicole, Hayden, Samantha, and Houston; a sister, Pansy DeVasure, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She lived most of her life in Lebanon and Laclede County, Missouri. Upon graduating from Lebanon High School, she taught school for several years. After Edith and Milan were married, they lived for a brief time in Branson, Missouri, where she worked for the telephone company. They soon returned to the Lebanon area, made their home and lovingly raised their son. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, she worked in the office at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Lebanon. Edith made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Lebanon. She had been active in the Joy Sunday School Class and the Dorcas Circle for many years, and held the distinction of being the oldest living member of the church. She was a true lady in every sense of the word, and always focused her thoughts on helping others. She had given countless hours of time in volunteer work throughout the years, and had helped such organizations as the OATS program, the March of Dimes, and the American Heart Association, to name just a few. In her spare time she liked growing beautiful flowers, especially African Violets, and working in her garden. Her family and her church were center most in her life and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edith was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her long and active life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
