Edna Burris (Hartville)'s Obituary
Edna Lucille Burris, daughter of Charles Everett and Ollie Jane Robertson Hightower, was born March 28, 1914 in Grovespring, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, September 28, 2015 in the Hartville Care Center, Hartville, Missouri, at the age of one hundred and one years and six months.
On January 11, 1934, Edna was united in marriage to Calvin Ray Burris and to this union six children were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin, on July 20, 1983; a grandson, Randy Ray Burris; three sisters, Dulcia Childers, Grace Kelsay, and Delores Shaddy; and four brothers, Clifford, Dalton, Herman, and Frank Hightower; and a daughter-in-law, Loretta Burris.
Edna is survived by her children; Mitchell Lee Burris and wife Chlorene, of Lebanon, Missouri, Ansel Ray Burris, of Falcon, Missouri, Jerry Dean Burris and wife Jolene, of Hartville, Missouri, Priscilla Helen Carriger and husband Robert, of Springfield, Missouri, Rilla Frances Baillie of Springfield, Missouri, and Paul Earnest Burris and wife Glenda, of Grovespring, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Sherry Jo Johnson, Donald Lee Burris, Lynn Eugene Burris, Ricky Ray Burris, Michael Dean Burris, Cathy Dawn Easton, Steven Ray Carriger, Lawana Jean Ahrendsen, Jeffrey Lynn Baillie, Paula Jo Bishop, and Glendon Paul Burris; twenty-three great-grandchildren; twenty-one great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Gray, of , Alamosa, Colorado and Glennis Hogan, of Grovespring, Missouri; one brother Ezra Hightower, of Hartville, Missouri; as well as a number of nieces and nephews, as well as host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Edna was born in Grovespring and attended the Luallen Grade School. She was a lifelong resident of Grovespring and worked many years on the family farm with her husband, Calvin. She remained in Grovespring until her health forced her to move to the Hartville Care Center in 2010.
She had accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church.
Edna enjoyed the time spent with her friends at the Grovespring Senior Citizen Center and in her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and other games, as well as working jig saw puzzles, crocheting, quilting, painting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Edna was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring friend. We celebrate her long life and many accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends.
