Edna Pearl Durbin (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Edna (Edie) Pearl Durbin, 87 of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, in her home, surrounded by family, and friends whose love, songs and prayers helped carry her peacefully into the arms of the lord.
Edna was born in Bolivar, Missouri on October 25, 1934, to John Mays and Delta Viola Cox. She grew up in Morrisville, Missouri and received her diploma from Marion C. Early High School. She Married Richard M. Durbin on December 2, 1951, and they began a life of adventure. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Kansas City and California, and settled in Springfield, Missouri in 1956, and Salem, Missouri in 1969.
They traveled the world together, traversing Europe, cruising the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, and exploring Australia, as well as a host of other countries. After retirement from the grocery business, they moved back to Springfield in 1991 to be closer to their family.
Edie, a competitive golfer, belonged to the Salem (Spring Creek) Country Club in Salem, and Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield. She spent many happy years golfing in tournaments all around Missouri and the city of Springfield – becoming a top women’s golfer in Springfield. She also enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, poker, and all kinds of card games, and she loved to do embroidery and crafts. But mostly, she loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her seven sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Melvin Durbin; her two daughters and their husbands, Linda Robb (Thom) and Lisa Hester (Wes); her three grandchildren: Vanessa, Emily (Ben) and Norell, and four great grandchildren, Will (13) Quentin (12), Huck (4) and Boone (3). She is also survived by eight of her nine siblings: Charlene Grant, James Cox, Eula Ghys, Beverly Yates, Anna Lea Griffits, Myrtle Sue Cox, Regina Deskins and Joyce Presley, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in Death by her parents, John and Delta; and one brother, Benton.
Funeral services for Edna will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at noon at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday, August 25, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar.
