Edna Irene (Bennett) Hoerning's Obituary
Irene Hoerning, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones at the age of eighty-three years on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
One of twelve children, she was born Edna Irene Bennett on February 10, 1932, in Marshfield, Missouri, to Tom and Ann (Carpenter) Bennett. She married Sam Denney in 1951, and to this union five children were born. Irene was a devoted military wife for twenty years, also a mother, grandmother and homemaker. Family was most important to her, and she made sure they knew it. Over the years, she enjoyed quilting in her spare time and loved gardening and tending to flowers in the summers. Friends could always count on sharing a good pot of coffee when stopping to visit if she wasn’t away on a trip with her brothers and sisters in her earlier years. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by husband, Carl Hoerning in June, 1993; four sisters, Luciel Cantrell, Anita Cantrell, Ileen Withrow, and Diana McGinnis; two brothers, Darrell Bennett and Foey Bennett; and two infant siblings, Wilber and Joetta Bennett. Irene is survived by her children; son, Doug and Mary Denney of Bastrop, Texas; daughter, Connie and Joe Bryant of Springfield, Missouri; son, Bruce and Vicky Denney of Seymour, Missouri; son, Dan Denney of Napavine, Washington; and daughter, Jodie Denney of Marshfield; ten grandchildren, Aftan Bryant, Laci Bainbridge, Rebecca Jennings, Ellen Denney, Ryan Denney, Shawn Denney, Samantha Denney, Emily Keller, Michele Johnson, and Jen Cunningham; fifteen great-grandchildren; four brothers, Ira Bennett, and Raymond and Shirley Bennett, all of Marshfield; Roy and Geneva Bennett of Seymour, and Jerry Bennett of Tittsburg, Missouri; several nieces, nephews and extended family; and many more dear friends and neighbors. She was truly an example of putting others before herself and especially her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, but the happy memories everyone has of her will keep her spirit alive in their hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Liberty Cemetery, Irene's final resting place, and may be left at the funeral home.
