Edna Justice Shaffer's Obituary
Edna Mae Justice Shaffer, daughter of Edward L. and Anna L. Muse Justice, was born April 11, 1912, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. She departed this life Friday, May 5, 2006, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety-four years, and twenty-three days. On October 14, 1950, she was united in marriage to Richard James Shaffer, Sr. and to this union one daughter and one son were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, on January 15, 1985; and two sisters, Louisa H. Justice, and Nettie F. Simpson. Edna is survived by a daughter, Barbara Voorhees, of the home; a son, Richard J. Shaffer, Jr., and his wife, Patricia, of Williamstown, New Jersey; five grandchildren, Richard J. Shaffer III, Diane Mary Dobleman, Patricia Ann Bannister, John D. Adamson, and James R. Adamson; fifteen great-grandchildren, John Dobleman, Matthew Dobleman, Michael Dobleman, Gina Marie Shaffer, Noelle Shaffer, Richard J. Shaffer IV, T.J. Bannister, Ryan Bannister, Richard Adamson, Caitlyn Adamson, John G. Adamson, Ryan Adamson, Joshua Adamson, Selyna Adamson, Isabel Justice Adamson; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, she became a dental technician. She then entered the United States Navy WAVES, where she served as a dental technician during World War II. She met and married Richard while he was in the United States Army, and they moved to Germany. After being honorably discharged, they settled in California. Then in 1985, she moved to Seymour to be close to her daughter. Edna had made her profession of faith in Christ, and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Seymour and was active with the United Methodist Women’s Group. In her earlier years, she was a member of the American Dental Assistants Association, and took part in many national conventions as a delegate. She was also very involved in the community and was a member of the Senior Citizens Center of Seymour, and used to write the Senior Column in the Webster County Citizen. Edna was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the memories she has created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri. Memorial contributions to the Seymour Senior Citizens Center may be made through the funeral home.
