Edna was the second of eight children: Leota Garner Stigall, Ervil (Buck) Garner, Arlin Garner, Roger Garner, Dorothy Garner Claxton, Monroe Garner, and Mabus Garner Weaver. She married Thurman Clifford Stigall on February 13, 1929, in the home of Reverend S. D. Belt. They built their house shortly after they were married and became beef and dairy farmers. They farmed there throughout their married lives. They were happily married for sixty-six years. During the “Great Depression”, Edna and Cliff went to Idaho for a summer to work on a sheep ranch. Edna was a cook there for the farmhands that worked the ranch. In the early ‘40s she worked at the Rock Store Tomato Canning Factory, where she was known as the fastest peeler. She had a good heart and enjoyed helping others. During the construction of Highway E, she fed dinner every day to the workers who paved the road. She would also allow homeless drifters to stay in the barn loft for a night and feed them a hot meal. She loved her family and friends very deeply and enjoyed their company often. She loved cooking a big dinner and having family over to eat. Then she liked to sit out in the back yard afterward and eat watermelon or make homemade ice cream.
